To reach the park, from downtown Kalamazoo follow M-43 east. Where Gull Road veers off to the right go straight on Riverview Drive. In a half mile Mt. Olivet Road goes to the right, follow that for about three quarters of a mile to Spring Valley Park. Turn right into the second entrance to the park, by the water tower. We will meet in the parking lot by the road.
We will walk about a 1.5 mile loop, at a leisurely pace, around the wetland at the east end of the park. Some of the species we might find would be Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, Golden-crowned Kinglet, and maybe a duck or grebe on the lake. This would be a good opportunity for beginners, as the leaves will have mostly fallen, making finding the little birds a bit easier. The trip should be about two hours.
