Meet in the hatchery parking lot at 8:00 AM. The hatchery is six miles west of US-131 on the southwest corner of M-43 and Hatchery Road. The parking lot is on Hatchery Road a tenth of a mile south of M-43.

We’ll walk the dikes around the hatchery ponds looking for ducks and other early migrants. The hatchery is well suited to beginning birders as it is open, making it easier to find and see the “little birds” as well as the ducks on the water.

Some of the ducks we probably will see are Ruddy Duck, Ring-necked Duck, Gadwall, Green-winged Teal, and Redhead. Some of the little, or perching, birds we should see are Eastern Phoebe, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Belted Kingfisher, and Tree Swallow. Of course there are always the unexpecteds that usually turn up, to generate a bit more excitement. The walking will be easy and will probably be about a mile. We should be done by about 10:00.
