*Meet for carpooling at 6:30 AM at the US-131/D Avenue. commuter parking lot. Dress for the weather and conditions. This will be mostly a birding by car trip, driving around to the locations for specific species, though if necessary, we may also do some walking. All skill levels are welcome. The cars in the car pool will be in touch with walkie-talkies.

We will check various habitats within the game area seeking out interesting species from the floodplain to the dry grassland. Target species, in no particular order, include Cerulean Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, Upland Sandpiper, Grasshopper Sparrow, Henslow’s Sparrow, Bobolink, Black Tern, Acadian Flycatcher, Canada Warbler, Hooded Warbler, and, if we are really lucky, Common Raven.

I know the starting time is early, but the birds are the most active and findable then. Even though it is difficult to crawl out of bed so early, I think it will be “worth the price of admission.” Bringing a snack and insect repellent may be a good idea. I expect we will be back before noon.
