The Asylum Lake Preservation Association and the Natural Areas Program at Western Michigan University are planning a Celebration and Gathering at the Preserve to acquaint the public with the many aspects of one or our area’s prime natural treasures.
The gathering will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 1:00–5:00 PM at Gibbs House on Parkview Avenue. It will feature tours of the plants and birds, led by local experts, which will leave from the Parkview entrance to the Preserve. It will also offer displays at Gibbs House by local environmental organizations and by researchers who study the Preserve, and light refreshments. A memorial will be dedicated to Renay and Monte Piercey, pioneers in the Association who were part of keeping the Preserve a natural area, and remember the dedication of the volunteers who shared in that effort
