Meet at 5:45 PM at the D Avenue/US-131 commuter parking lot. We will carpool to the Farm Unit of the game area. The Allegan State Game Area has a recently initiated program to create more and larger grasslands in the Farm Unit portion of the game area. Those grasslands are the very habitat that the endangered Short-eared Owls require to find the food they need during migration, which is rodents. From the roadside we will watch for the entertaining and acrobatic flight of the owls as they go about their business of searching for a mouse or vole. We might also see a Northern Harrier or two as well and who knows what else! Bring your binoculars. Warning, we will be standing in the open (wind is likely in this sort of situation), so you will enjoy the experience more if you dress appropriately warm and windproof. I expect we will be back by about 8:30 PM.
