HUMMINGBIRD ART EXHIBIT AT KALAMAZOO COLLEGE LIBRARY
The Kalamazoo College Library’s Rare Book Room will be hosting an exhibit entitled, “Flying Gems: Hummingbirds by John James Audubon and John Gould.” Audubon executed studies of four hummingbird species for his monumental Birds of America, presented in the exhibit in several states, including digital copies of his original watercolors in the collection of the New York Historical Society. John Gould published his study of hummingbirds with 360 hand-colored lithographed plates, bound in five volumes. The Gould plates on display are changed regularly. Beginning on Monday, January 6, this exhibit will run through March 13. Open hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and admission is free. The exhibit will also be available for viewing during Art Hop on Friday, January 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The library is located at the corner of Academy and Thompson Streets, with the entrance on Thompson.
