Meet at the US-131/Centre Street Commuter Lot in Portage at 8:15 AM for carpooling*. Or you can meet us at the Spirit Springs Sanctuary parking lot on the north side of Dutch Settlement Road at 9:00 AM.

Spirit Springs Sanctuary is one of Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy’s (SWMLC) newer preserves. It has wide paths that follow the high ground in oak woodlands past ponds, marshes, and wet woods. Many different kinds of neotropical migrants such as warblers, flycatchers, tanagers, and orioles can be plentiful if our timing is right. Nate Fuller of SWMLC will lead the field trip and will provide background into the history and management of the 120-acre preserve. There are a couple of hills but we will be moving slow and the trails are smooth. We should leave the preserve by 11:30 to be back to Portage by 12:00 noon.
