Meet at the Chevy Chase entrance to the preserve. Chevy Chase crosses Oakland Drive about a quarter mile north of Parkview Avenue/Whites Road. Go down the hill to the east. The preserve entrance is at the guardrail just around the corner.

This is the time for several early migrating species to be passing through on their way back to the North Country. Vegetation should not be developed enough to be a hindrance, so finding birds will still be relatively easy. This trip is suitable for beginners and above. Some of the candidates we will be looking for are Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, Ruby- and Golden-crowned Kinglets, White-throated Sparrow, Purple Finch, and Pine Siskin.

We will walk about two hours and probably two miles. The trails are generally good though may be a bit muddy.
