Saturday February 15, 10:00 AM, The Great Backyard Bird Count at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, Leaders: Donna Keller (269) 207-2874) and Russ Schipper
Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery is located 200 yards south of M- 43 on Fish Hatchery Road, about one mile west of the Kalamazoo County line.

The Wolf Lake Hatchery Visitors Center and ASK have been hosting this count for a number of years now; it is an excellent site with different habitats, and most importantly there is open water. We will try to see the various birds that are calling the hatchery home for the winter. This is an excellent opportunity for beginners to get out and see a few winter birds. We will spend about an hour or hour and a half, mostly walking around the dikes of the ponds. Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them and kids are most welcome. However, be sure to dress considerably warmer than you think you need to. The dikes are quite open and often breezy, so dressing windproof and warm in layers makes for a more enjoyable event. It has been too common for several under-dressed folks to leave early.
