Join Rick Brigham for ASK’s March 2019, monthly presentation. In his own words, “September 2011, trip ranks at the top of my favorite birding excursions ever. It feels like a dream, being so far away now. 315 birds tallied. Best bird was the Plain’s Wanderer – a rarity that requires a guide, spotlighting, and a bunch of patience to find. Visited a number of different environments, from the frontier lands of the York Peninsula, to the tidal mud flats of the Cairns Esplanade, to the Outback Plains of the southeastern interior.”

“As for myself, I was born with a pair of bins in my hands. That happens when your mother is a naturalist. My first memorable bird was a Wood Stork my mom took the family to see near Lansing when I was age 5. Being tutored in the wilds of nature, it was only natural that at age 17 I join my father for a six-month backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. Much of my early adult life revolved around being a naturalist at a city park in Lansing and presiding as president of the Capital Area Audubon Society. Thereafter, I took several terms on the Michigan Bird Records Committee and led field trips for Michigan Audubon Society and Whitefish Point Bird Observatory. The last 30 years I have spent in the specialty outdoor industry, purchasing and selling gear from hiking boots to stand-up paddle boards. The last half of that time has been in the employment of The Outpost of Holland.”

You are invited to join us to meet and hear Rick on March 25 at People’s Church, 1758 North 10th Street, Kalamazoo. Our program starts at 7:30 PM and is preceded by a social time with light refreshments at 7:00. Guests and the public are encouraged to attend. Handicap parking and access is at either the front or rear entrance of the building. Please remember to bring your own coffee mug to reduce dishwashing.
