US-131/Centre St. Commuter Lot
We will look for several species of open country birds that are returning to their Arctic breeding grounds at this time. Horned Larks should be setting up territories, so we’ll look for their impressive courtship flight. Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs are also on the “to see” list, Rough-legged Hawk is a possibility, and I am hoping for a Snowy Owl. This will be a carpool/car caravan trip, with as few cars as possible. Some birding will be done from the car; however, we will be getting out periodically, so be very sure to dress in layers and for the likely cold and windy conditions. The species we are looking for like very open areas where the wind is definitely a factor in how comfortable we are or are not. PLEASE dress VERY warm! To maximize the chances of seeing birds, our vehicles will be in radio contact.
