Everybody loves them. Michigan, Minnesota, Maine – the state doesn’t have to begin with an “M” to love loons. Gerald Purdy has worked with the Michigan Loon Preservation Association (MLPA) for over 15 years, sustaining our love affair with this icon of natural peace and tranquility.
Gerald is a neonatologist at Bronson Hospital professionally. So like most of us, his work on the behalf of loons is an act of love. He is a long-time birder and bird photographer who is active with the MLPA in educating the public about the biology, the threats, and ways to protect our population of Michigan loons.
This promises to be a great kick-off program for our 2015-16 Audubon Society of Kalamazoo year. “The Common Loon” will be presented Monday, September 28, at People’s Church, 1758 North 10th Street, Kalamazoo. The program will start at 7:30 PM and is preceded by a social time with light refreshments (please bring your own coffee/tea mug) at 7 PM. Guests and the general public are welcome. Handicap parking and access is at either the front or rear entrances to the building.
