Meet at the Preserve parking lot. The Preserve is on the corner of South Westnedge Avenue and South Shore Drive, a little over a mile south of Centre Street. The entrance to the parking lot is on South Shore Drive.

West Lake Preserve has both woodland and wetland habitats that are good for migrant birds. The two wetland areas offer open views, one over a boggy/marshy area and one over West Lake. We’ll be looking for migrating warblers, vireos, thrushes, and others. On West Lake, we may see some ducks, loons, or terns. We’ll walk about a mile on easy trails, but parts of the boardwalks through the bog and wetlands are usually wet, even ankle deep or higher. Waterproof footwear is highly recommended. Insect repellent may be worth having along as well. The trip should be about two hours.
