Events Single Title Field Trip - Detroit River Hawk Watch

October 11, 2025

Field Trip Leaders: Kent Martin (256) 751-3358, Susan Creager (269) 716-7988

This fall marks the 43rd consecutive autumn monitoring diurnal raptor and vulture migration at Lake Erie Metropark. Southbound migrating raptors are naturally funneled to this location between Lakes Huron and Erie, where counting occurs daily from September 1 to November 30. (For more information - detroitriverhawkwatch.org.)

To experience this phenomenon, meet us at the Oakland Drive/I-94 commuter parking lot at 7:30am to join a caravan to the park, or join us at the Lake Erie Metropark boat ramp (32481 W Jefferson Ave, Brownstown Charter Twp, MI 48173) at 10:00am. A $10.00 vehicle pass is required for entry. Bring spotting scopes if you have them. We will have pastries and coffee available and will stop for lunch after leaving the park.
