January 2023 Climate Corner

By Susan Schneider

Climate change threatens birds as well as people and other living things, of course, and National Audubon has recognized this for some time. As a long-time climate activist, I was delighted when its fall 2019 magazine was entirely devoted to climate change and climate action. The climate action webpage that was posted at the same time – based in part on the special issue – won a national magazine award in 2020, and it’s one of my standard go-tos for people looking for good online resources.

Features include how to start a climate conversation, low-carbon travel, climate- (and bird-) friendly yards, climate coping skills (important, because this can get overwhelming), the role of food, community activities, and more. Take a look, see what you can do to help address this huge challenge, and start the year off right!
