Saturday, February 18, 10 AM, Great Backyard Bird Count at the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, Leaders: Kent Martin (256-751-3358) and Sue Creager.

Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery can be reached by going west on M-43 from US-131 for about six miles. After crossing into Van Buren County, turn left (south) onto County Road 652 (or Fish Hatchery Road). Turn into the second driveway to the right to access the parking lot. Participants should meet at the visitor center to begin the program.

ASK’s Kent Martin and Sue Creager will lead this bird walk to discover a variety of birds that overwinter in Michigan including a variety of ducks and swans that remain on the open water ponds at the hatchery. The program is part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) and will last approximately 90 minutes. The visitor center will be open with hot cocoa and coffee available. Dress exceptionally warm; the ponds can be quite windy. The program is open to all ages and skill levels. Binoculars will be available to borrow for those without.
